Catarina Sabino Literary professional from Portugal
'For those of us who work in the book industry, our goal is to find the best way to connect the writers to their audience. It is also our biggest challenge.'
Catarina Sabino graduated from the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon in 2015 with a degree in Philosophy. She then enrolled in a Master’s in Publishing in the NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities in Lisbon. She has been a part of the Booktailors production team since 2016, having produced over a dozen literary events in Portugal and abroad. She also performs tasks pertaining to Booktailors' work as a literary agency: when it comes to rights sales, she was part of the team who attended the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2017, and she manages the professional schedule of the authors represented by Bookoffice, in Portugal and abroad.
'As people read less, and more and new ways to experience literature appear, there is one thing to keep in mind: our main strengthS are the authors and their unique voice. For those of us who work in the book industry, our goal is to find the best way to connect the writers to their audience. It is also our biggest challenge. The job of bridging the gap between the author and their potential readership is twofold.
On the one hand, we have to capacitate the writers and to give them tools to make their voices heard beyond the written page, both to publishers and audience. On the other hand, we have to create a favorable space for the meeting between authors and their readers. Given that the challenges we face are on several ends, we should be tackling them on several fronts too. Platforms and projects that allow us to do so represent a sustainable and ever-adapting strategy for the future of the book and publishing sector.'
