We can’t believe we are already halfway through the CELA European festivaltour! Our next stop is the fourth edition of the Tinto no Branco - Festival Literário de Viseu in Viseu, Portugal. From 7 until 9 December the Solar do Vinho do Dão will host 'the most international edition ever' of the festival. Combining literature and other narrative arts together with wine and gastronomy, the festival provides a safe and warming escape during this cold winter month. With literary performances, workshops, life talks, concerts, local wines and tastes for all ages.
Three new writer and translator duo’s will travel to Portugal to present themselves and their work together on stage during ‘Na tua ou na minha lingua’ (‘In your tongue or mine’) on Friday 7 December at 9.30 pm. Matías Candeira (Spain) and Matias Gomes, Joost Oomen (the Netherlands) and Xénon Cruz, Anna Kalimar (Romania) and Maria João Coutinho take the stage together with presenter Hélder Gomes.
There will also be three CELA workshops during the weekend. On Friday 7 December from 10.00 am until 12.30 pm at Biblioteca Municipal de Viseu, and on Saturday 8 December at 10.00 am in the Solar do Vinho do Dão there will be creative writing workshops together with Portuguese writer Filipa Melo. Join the translation workshop on 9 December at 10.00 am until 12.30 pm together with Nuno Quintas to learn about what it means - and does not mean - to translate, and acquire tools and skills for literary translation.
For a detailed programme and to register for the workshops, see the festival's website. Vejo você lá!
CELA (Connecting Emerging Literary Artists) offers a European context to a new generation of writers, translators and literary professionals. Starting in September 2018, the CELA artists take stages all across Europe to sit side by side on stage, revealing the joys, and sorrows, of telling the same story differently. After Tinto no Branco - Festival Literario, different duo’s take the stage at Passa Porta Festival (Belgium), Lev - Literature em Viagem (Portugal) and Book Fest (Romania). We are looking forward to meet you there!
